- Select a spark plug with an ignition gap of 0.7 mm (in normal cases), or adjust the ignition gap accordingly.
- Always clean the cylinder head before removing an old spark plug.
- Remove the old spark plug.
- First screw in the new spark plug by hand, afterwards tighten it to the proper tightening torque using a torque wrench (see the Info Box).
- Check the spark plug connector (visual examination for cracks). If it is defective, please replace it.
- Apply the insulating paste directly to the connector.
- Attach the connector.

Tightening torque (N • m): 10 N • m ≈ 1 kpm for dry, ungreased/unoiled threading and new seal.
In case of lubricated threading or spark plug replacement, reduce the tightening torque by 1/3.

What do electrodes and insulators look like, and what does the way they look like mean? The appearance of a spark plug offers important clues to its performance when in use – as well as information about the composition of the fuel-air mixture and the engine's combustion process.
Anyone who wants to diagnose an engine needs to be able to read these "faces." In order to reach the proper conclusions, you should first drive about 10 kilometers with the vehicle. When doing so, the engine must be operated at varying speeds in the medium range of performance. The engine should not be allowed to idle for a longer period of time before shutting it off.
